InsulTote insulated packaging products displayed at Pack Expo

The Innovative Energy booth at Pack Expo 2012 in Chicago
The Innovative Energy booth at Pack Expo 2012 in Chicago displayed several examples of InsulTote insulated packaging products.

Several members from the Innovative Energy team were in Chicago exhibiting at Pack Expo earlier this week. Our InsulTote insulated packaging products were on display, including insulated boxes and box liners, as well as miniature mock-ups of our insulated pallet covers.

As always, Pack Expo attracted thousands of professionals and we were pleased to meet with a good number of them at our booth.

“We spoke with individuals who are seeking a solution for protecting everything from food and dessert items to cosmetics and medical supplies,” said Tammy Skrzekut, executive director of the Packaging division for Innovative Energy. “Our reflective-based insulation products, combined with the resourcefulness of our team, give us the ability to offer such solutions.”

The InsulTote product line offers a variety of insulated shipping and transport products – made using reflective technology – that protect temperature-sensitive items during transit. Not only do we supply standard items like insulated boxes, box liners, pouches and pallet covers, but we pride ourselves in offering custom-tailored solutions to best suit your needs.

Innovative Energy to display astroECO at Metalcon

Metalcon InternationalWe will be displaying astroECO, our leading environmentally-friendly reflective insulation product line, at Metalcon next week so if you’re attending the show be sure to stop by our booth #1508. Joe Dewes, executive director of the Commercial Division, will be on hand to discuss our products and answer any questions. We’ll also be handing out free packets featuring installation guidelines and tips for installing astroECO or AstroShield reflective insulation.

Metalcon International takes place Oct. 9-11 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. We will have all of our building insulation products on display at the show, but astroECO is always the main draw because it is both environmentally-friendly and economically priced.

How Does astroECO Reflective Insulation Work?

astroECO features polyethylene bubble film manufactured from 25 percent recycled material sandwiched between two protective sheets, one or both of which has a metalized aluminum surface. This metalized film blocks 94 percent of radiant heat transfer, dramatically improving thermal performance and energy efficiency while keeping energy costs lower and interior spaces more comfortable. In the summer, astroECO installed in the walls and ceilings of a building will reflect the heat before it can enter. In the winter, astroECO holds the heat in because of the metalized surface’s low emittance.

Radiant heat is one of the three ways that heat is transferred, and it is the primary mode of heat transfer in buildings. It occurs when infrared rays cross air spaces from one surface to another. Whereas mass insulation slows down heat transfer, reflective insulation will stop up to 94 percent of radiant heat transfer, therefore improving overall thermal performance. Other benefits of astroECO reflective insulation products include:

  • Made in the USA
  • Reduced energy consumption and costs
  • Class A/Class 1 flame and smoke rating
  • Thin and lightweight products
  • Easy and safe to install; no special tools or protective clothing required

Reflective insulation is ideal for agricultural buildings

Agricultural building insulation
Reflective insulation makes a great choice for insulating livestock buildings.

Keeping farm animals comfortable with proper insulation is essential to making sure they stay healthy and productive. This is why reflective insulation and radiant barriers make great choices for insulating livestock housing – such as stables, poultry houses, and hog and dairy barns.

Not only will reflective insulation keep farm animals warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it can also improve natural lighting and increase the longevity of your building by reducing building condensation. Reflective products are lightweight, environmentally friendly and non-toxic, making them safe and easy to install.

Already have insulation in your building? Mass insulation material like fiberglass and foam merely slow down the transfer of heat; they do not reflect heat away, nor do they keep it in. Reflective insulation and radiant barriers can be used in combination with other forms of insulation to form a hybrid insulation system. This hybrid system will improve the efficiency of the building envelope since up to 94 percent of radiant heat transfer can be blocked with the addition of a reflective surface.

Logistics manager’s last day at Innovative Energy

Andrea Day
Andrea Day was surprised with cake, roses and a Pandora bracelet on her last day at Innovative Energy.

Fridays are usually the most anticipated day of the week in many offices, including ours. But that was not the case this past Friday here at Innovative Energy as we held a farewell celebration for our logistics manager, Andrea Day.

Day has been a part of the Innovative Energy team for eight years. She recently balanced work and classes as she completed her first year of graduate school in pursuit of a master’s degree in education. But in preparation for the upcoming fall semester, Day decided that it was time to focus solely on her classes.

To mark the bittersweet occasion, employees gathered in the break room to surprise Day with cake, roses and a Pandora bracelet.

“It was our pleasure to work with Andrea for the past eight years. Hard-working, dependable, trustworthy, honest and innovative are just a few words to describe her, the list is long,” said Carrie Smith, office manager.

“We will miss her here, especially her signature laugh and sense of humor, but we wish her the very best and support her decision to leave the company to further her education and make this world a better place.”

On Monday, Day reflected on her first work-free work day.

“When I passed IE, I felt an ache in my heart. I knew today was going to be hard on me,” she said. “I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon.”

However, we think that it might get easier for her sooner rather than later … right about the time she starts to become overwhelmed with school work.

Good luck Andrea!

Cook-off time at Innovative Energy

Winners of Innovative Energy's cook-off
Lisa Sizemore (middle) won first place in the guacamole cook-off while Tammy Snyder (left) came in second place and Wendy Brownewell (right) came in third place.

We may not be in the food industry, (although we do offer insulated packaging products for those who are) but Innovative Energy employees sure can cook. This was evident at yesterday’s company potluck where an array of dishes, including tacos, salsas, rice and bean dip – not to mention the desserts – were enjoyed.

What was the occasion? Just a good old-fashioned cook-off. The featured dish – Guacamole.

Guacamole dishes
There were five entries in the guacamole cook-off. The winning recipes can be seen in this photo as numbers 1, 5 and 4 respectively.

Five employees decided to throw their best guacamole recipe into the mix to see who would be crowned this year’s cook-off champion. With only one vote left to be tallied, Lisa Sizemore, sales assistant in the Commercial Division, and Tammy Snyder, executive director of the Packaging Division, were tied for first place.

The last vote put Sizemore ahead and she was awarded the big spoon – our cook-off trophy. Snyder walked away with second place while Wendy Brownewell, logistics manager, picked up third.
